Census-Based Typological Damage Fragility Curves and Seismic Risk Scenarios for Unreinforced Masonry Buildings

چکیده
Seismic risk assessment has become a crucial issue for optimal management of economic resources allocated to mitigation. For this purpose, in the last decades, several research activities were aimed update hazard, exposure, and vulnerability models that contribute seismic assessment. From perspective, present work focuses on developing new empirical damage fragility curves census-based typological unreinforced masonry buildings. In particular, data observed after 2009 L’Aquila earthquake, Italy, related almost 57,000 residential buildings, used calibrate functions. These complemented with census aim obtaining an accurate estimation number undamaged Damage identified building classes, defined considering parameters both post-earthquake observations extending results whole national territory. Six classes categories construction timespan state repair parameters. Then, further distinction stories parameter was included where relevant. Damage Accumulation in Unreinforced Masonry Due to Seismic Loading
Masonry has low cohesive strength and is susceptible to the brittle failure, when subjected to induced tensile stresses. It fails due to lateral tensile stresses even when masonry prisms are tested in uni-axial static compression and the stress-strain curve remains almost linear up to failure. Although masonry normally resists compressive forces, under lateral in-plane cyclic loads some parts o...
متن کاملSeismic Design of Box-Type Unreinforced Masonry Buildings Through Direct Displacement-Based Approach
In the last decade, displacement-based seismic design procedures have been recognised to be effective alternatives to force-based design (FBD) methods. Indeed, displacement based design (DBD) may allow the structural engineer to get more realistic predictions of local and global deformations of the structure, and hence damage, under design earthquakes. This facilitates the achievement of perfor...
متن کاملTowards Displacement-Based Seismic Design of Modern Unreinforced Masonry Structures
Unreinforced masonry (URM) structures are known to be rather vulnerable to seismic loading. Modern URM buildings with reinforced concrete (RC) slabs might, however, have an acceptable seismic performance for regions of low to moderate seismicity. In particular in countries of moderate seismicity it is often difficult to demonstrate the seismic safety of modern URM buildings by means of force-ba...
متن کاملScaling unreinforced masonry for reduced-scale seismic testing
When testing multi-storey structures, most testing facilities require the testing of a reduced-scale model. A literature review on tests of scaled masonry structural components revealed that scaling of masonry was rather challenging and often significant differences in stiffness, strength and failure mechanisms between the different sized masonry were reported. This paper addresses the scaling ...
متن کاملUncertainty in Seismic Capacity of Masonry Buildings
Seismic assessment of masonry structures is plagued by both inherent randomness and model uncertainty. The former is referred to as aleatory uncertainty, the latter as epistemic uncertainty because it depends on the knowledge level. Pioneering studies on reinforced concrete buildings have revealed a significant influence of modeling parameters on seismic vulnerability. However, confidence in me...
